Brought up in boxing gyms and brawling pubs, James Ward Breen brings this unexpected nexus to his voice as a storyteller. Dedicated to expressing the sacred, James’ work showcases his innate ability to capture the essence of the people and cultures he connects with through photography and moving images.

James’ photography has been featured in a number of international publications such as the BBC, The Guardian, Euronews, the South China Morning Post and Digital Photographer Magazine. 

In 2023, his stills work was acknowledged with a World Sports Photography Award Gold Medal as well as two Special Merit Awards. 

James’ first ever screenplay The Killer Within was accepted into the Screen NSW Aurora Script Development program. His follow up, The Last Publican was invited to participate in the Binger Filmlab Amsterdam and has received development support from Screen Australia.

His award winning short films have screened at film festivals worldwide, and he is currently in post production on feature documentary After The Swill.

Represented by Zuma Press (USA), James currently lives in Sydney, Australia and travels to where ever a story needs to be told.
